Forthcoming Events:

Bird spotting tour around the fields of Soar Mill Seeds and down to the beach - Thursday June 10th

An evening conducted visit around the fields, cliffs, beach and farm has been arranged for Thursday 10th June starting at 6pm. The suggestion is that people bring a picnic to eat on the cliffs halfway through the tour. In the quiet of the evening we may be lucky enough to see peregrine, Sika deer, hares, owls and Cirl Bunting (there are 23 Bunting sites) and out to sea, dolphins. There is a nominal charge of £2 per person.

LEAF - Open Farm Sunday

South Hams Society has been invited to support LEAF by visiting a Farm on Open Farm Sunday, http://www.farmsunday.org/ofs/home.eb at Beenleigh Meadows Farm near Harberton on Sunday 13th June 2010. The owners are planning to launch their South Devon Lamb CSA scheme (locally produced lamb and wool from Beenleigh) on the day, but it is in essence a fab day out with a farm walk, wild food forage, pony rides for the kids and sheep shearing and food.

Canoeing and wildlife watching on the Kingsbridge Estuary Sunday 4th July from 09.30 - 2.30 ish

We will meet on the small quay at Bowcombe (New) Bridge. Maximum 20 people. Singing Paddles, an experienced company from Averton Gifford will provide 5 canoes, suitable for 2-3 people per canoe, buoyancy aids and instruction. High tide is at 11.30 and the estuary is navigable for 3 hours either side of high water. The company suggests that people bring a picnic or BBQ. We can paddle for as long or as little as we feel able. Usually beginners do about 1/2 hour at a time, more experienced people up to 2 hours before returning to base and swapping over, refuelling or bird watching from the shore. This is a bit of an experiment for the society so could lead to a more ambitious paddle later in the year if people are enthusiastic. The cost is £15 per person, free to those picnicking but not canoeing.
